• Plans to remember Civil War solidify
With the 150th anniversary of the Civil War approaching, the commemoration is firming up.
“May 5, 2012, will be an important day,” said Kyra Cook, manager of the Historic Triangle Collaborative, which is coordinating Civil War events.
May 5 is the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Williamsburg, the area’s most important Civil War event. Reenactments at Redoubts 1 and 2 may occur. The city is cutting a trail between the two
for walking tours.
Williamsburg’s Civil War history revolves around the Peninsula campaign. Overrun by Union forces in 1862, Williamsburg was the closest Union-held town to the Confederate capital in Richmond for most of the war. As a result, it became a hotbed of espionage and intrigue.Click Here
